Write and edit copy for the soon-to-open National Comedy Center, a $50 million museum in New York.
The Work
I wrote copy for dozens of digital, interactive exhibits. In the process, I served as an important researcher, fact checker, and copy editor. The deadlines were intense, and our exhibits had enough copy to fill a book. Still, we had fun—and built a museum that’s finding national praise.
The Gig
Win a $950,000 grant for Pontiac Schools, an underserved school district near Detroit. The grant would fund Pontiac’s after-school program, Project Excel.
The Work
I wrote the application for Pontiac, teaming up with district staff to produce a compelling, data-driven narrative. When the results came in, staff were elated. It was a win!

Write ten video scripts for the Pistons, Detroit’s basketball powerhouse. The idea behind their videos: Use basketball analogies to teach K-12 math.
The Work
To develop the scripts, I teamed up with Pistons staff, ensuring the videos stayed on brand. I also partnered with a school district, Oakland Schools, in order to target the most important lessons. I then drafted the scripts, which the Pistons' staff produced and distributed.

The SAT had changed yet again. Oakland Schools needed a designed, copy edited guide for teachers and school administrators.
The Work
I partnered with staff across multiple agencies, as I edited a first draft of the guide. We identified the guide’s goals, and together, we planned everything from its length to its voice. I then designed a PDF of the guide, and handed it off to my thrilled clients.

Copy edit a series of major reports for Active Living By Design, a nonprofit that supported organizations across the U.S.
The Work
Active Living By Design was nearing the end of a years-long grant. To document its work, it wrote and designed a series of lengthy reports. But the organization needed an eagle-eyed copy editor for a final read. I copy edited every word of ALBD’s reports. I then teamed up with design and communications staff, and talked through the changes they’d want to make.

Chordoma Foundation needed uplifting, informative articles for its patient community. These articles would be featured online and in the organization’s newsletter.
The Work
My articles focused on the science of chordoma and the patients fighting the disease. I also teamed up with foundation staff, in order to align my stories with organizational goals.

Michigan’s superintendents were charged with an important task: Recommend whether the state government should implement a broad system of competency-based education. I was hired to research and write a report on the topic. This allowed Michigan’s superintendents to make an informed recommendation.
The Work
I researched and wrote a 40-page report. While researching it, I conducted original interviews with education experts. I also surveyed the available education literature. Once I finished writing the report, I worked closely with a designer to align my copy with her design elements.

I wrote articles aimed at parents and small businesses. The articles were primarily listicles, and carefully plugged Quill’s products.

Duke University runs an enrichment program for students in grades 4-12. I came onboard to review teachers’ evaluations of students—before any potential mistakes reached students’ families.
The Work
I copy edited and reviewed the evaluations. In doing so, I flagged evaluations that didn’t match course rubrics, as well as those which strayed afar from being constructive.
